Joshua Riibe, a person of interest in the disappearance of Sudiksha Konanki, a University of Pittsburgh student, has issued an ultimatum to law enforcement in the Dominican Republic. According to his attorney, Beatriz Santana, a motion filed on March 17 maintains that Riibe cannot be detained without charges and must be allowed to return home. Although Riibe has not been accused of any crime, his passport has been confiscated, and he is under police surveillance while being interrogated.
The ongoing investigation, now in its eleventh day, involves over 300 law enforcement officials, including agents from the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security, alongside deputies from Konanki’s hometown in Virginia. Beatriz Santana stated to ABC Eyewitness News, “If he wants to leave the hotel, he cannot do that freely, but with police. His passport is seized despite not being officially charged.”
A hearing regarding Santana’s habeas corpus motion is scheduled for March 18 at 2 PM. Riibe, originally from Iowa and a senior at St. Cloud State University, has been described as being in custody since shortly after Konanki’s disappearance on March 6.
