During a recent meeting in New Delhi, Nepal’s Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba requested U.S. assistance for the release of Bipin Joshi, who is held captive by Hamas. This discussion occurred with Ricky Gill, a Special Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs, during the 10th edition of the Raisina Dialogue 2025, organized by India’s Ministry of External Affairs.
Minister Deuba emphasized the importance of strengthening Nepal-U.S. relations founded on mutual democratic and human rights values. She conveyed optimism that cooperation between the two nations will continue to develop in the forthcoming years. Deuba also noted her previous appeals to the U.S. government regarding Joshi’s release, alongside seeking support from Israel, Qatar, Egypt, and other countries.
Bipin Joshi was among those kidnapped during the Hamas attack on Israel in October 2023, which tragically resulted in over a thousand deaths, including ten from Nepal. Following these events, the Government of Nepal has taken several diplomatic initiatives aimed at securing Joshi’s return, with Minister Deuba actively addressing the matter in various national and regional forums, including the United Nations, and through bilateral dialogues.
