Strengthening China-Zimbabwe Legislative Ties: A Meeting of Diplomatic Leaders

On March 12, Mr. Cheng Yan, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Chinese Embassy in Zimbabwe, engaged in discussions with Mr. Webster Shamu, Chairperson of the Zimbabwean Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade. The meeting focused on enhancing cooperative exchanges between the legislative bodies of China and Zimbabwe, with the presence of Counsellor Zhang Yi.

During the meeting, Cheng Yan provided an overview of the recent National People’s Congress (NPC) and the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference sessions. He elaborated on the concept of whole-process people’s democracy in China and noted the forthcoming 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Zimbabwe in 2025. Cheng expressed a desire for increased collaboration to implement agreements made during the two heads of state meetings and to strengthen bilateral relations established at the Beijing summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).

Furthermore, Webster Shamu commended the enduring mutual trust and friendship between Zimbabwe and China. He indicated that the Zimbabwean Parliament is prepared to maintain close relations with the NPC and is committed to facilitating exchanges, thereby fostering cooperation across multiple sectors between the two nations.
