Dr. Rashid Yahaya Ssemddu, the Ugandan Ambassador to Sudan, expressed appreciation for Ambassador AlShamsi’s efforts, stating, “I want to thank my brother, His Excellency, Ambassador Abdalla Hassan AlShamsi, who has been here for this wonderful initiative, which brings together the followers of different religions in our country.” He noted Uganda’s unique ability to coexist peacefully despite diverse religious backgrounds.

Dr. Ssemddu acknowledged the UAE’s continued generosity, recalling, “Last year, I witnessed the generosity where His Excellency and the government of the United Arab Emirates gave out more than 10,000 packages to the needy people… I’ve been assured that this practice is going to continue even this year.”

The event also emphasized the strengthening relationship between Uganda and the UAE, as Hon. Henry Okello Oryem, Uganda’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, highlighted developments in this partnership. He stated, “Our relationship with the UAE has developed from strength to strength. The UAE today is the biggest foreign inward investor in Uganda,” along with ambitious future projects including a major international airport and a nuclear power plant.

Bishop Jackson Matovu of the Central Buganda diocese emphasized the spiritual significance of the gathering, sharing, “Amazingly, this Ramadan coincided with our Lent season… we want to thank God who has united us and used the ambassador to invite us to be together this evening.”

The interfaith Iftar reinforced the importance of dialogue and collaboration across religious and cultural divides.
