Yemen’s Houthis Promise Increased Military Action in Support of Gaza

The Houthi group in Yemen has escalated attacks against US naval forces, linking these actions to their support for the Palestinians amid tensions in Gaza. They reported casualties from US airstrikes and condemned continued aggression against Palestinians, promising increased military engagement. This has led to defensive preparations in the region.

On Tuesday, the Houthi group from Yemen announced they had attacked the USS Harry Truman aircraft carrier and a US destroyer in the Red Sea, marking their third strike within a two-day period. Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree stated that “the American aggressor bears the full responsibility for the consequences of militarising the Red Sea and expanding the scope of confrontation,” linking US airstrikes in Yemen to negative repercussions on international maritime navigation.

Recent military action saw Washington launch airstrikes targeting an iron factory in Yemen’s Al-Hudaydah province. President Donald Trump initiated a significant military operation against the Houthis on Saturday, which is anticipated to be a prolonged campaign. The attacks have reportedly resulted in the deaths of at least 53 individuals, as stated by Houthi health ministry spokesperson Anees Alsbahi, which included five children and two women, with an additional 98 individuals injured.

Since late 2023, the Houthis have escalated their attacks on vessels they deem “Israeli-linked” in the Red and Arabian seas, as well as the Bab al-Mandab Strait and Gulf of Aden, in a demonstration of solidarity with the Gaza Strip. Following large-scale assaults on Gaza, the Houthis condemned what they called the “Zionist enemy’s resumption of aggression,” vowing to increase their support for Palestinians, asserting that “the Palestinian people will not be left alone in this battle.”

Additionally, reports indicate that the Zionist entity is preparing for potential retaliatory actions by establishing shelters in several regions amid the growing tensions originating from Yemen.

In summary, the Yemeni Houthi group has intensified their military actions, launching attacks on US naval vessels and vowing to support the Palestinians amid ongoing conflicts in Gaza. The situation reflects the broader geopolitical tensions in the region, with significant casualties resulting from both the Houthi attacks and US airstrikes. The Houthis’ commitment to increase hostilities underscores their solidarity with the Palestinian cause, prompting heightened defensive measures from the entity they oppose.
