Voting participation for the 2025 World Zionist Congress election in the United States has more than doubled in its first week relative to the previous election in 2020, as announced in a press release on Monday. This significant election, scheduled every five years, offers American Jews the opportunity to influence the future of Israel and support global Jewish communities through Zionism.
During the voting period from March 3 to March 10, a total of 53,213 votes were cast, reflecting a 122% increase from the 23,938 votes recorded within the same timeframe in 2020. At this rate, it is anticipated that the current election will exceed the previous record of 123,575 total votes, especially when compared to the mere 7,639 votes cast in the inaugural week of the 2015 election.
In this election, 152 delegates will be chosen from the US, representing approximately one-third of the Congress. These delegates will collaborate with global representatives to establish leadership and priorities for key organizations, such as the World Zionist Organization (WZO) and Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael-Jewish National Fund (KKL-JNF), guiding an allocation of over $1 billion annually to support Israel and Jewish communities worldwide.
Herbert Block, Executive Director of AZM, stated, “We are gratified to see the unprecedented voter participation in the election’s first week and anticipate that this pattern will continue throughout the voting period.” He noted that the high turnout illustrates American Jews’ pride in their Zionism and underscores the significant stakes involved for the Jewish and Israeli futures.
This year, a record 22 groups are competing in the elections, reflecting a diverse range of political viewpoints, religious beliefs, and cultural traditions—a 57% increase from the 14 groups that secured seats in 2020. Additionally, over 2,900 candidates from 43 states and territories are participating, marking a 60% rise from the last election.
The 39th World Zionist Congress is scheduled to convene in Jerusalem from October 28 to October 30, 2025, following this pivotal election.
The recent surge in voting for the 2025 World Zionist Congress highlights a notable increase in engagement among American Jews, with participation doubling compared to previous elections. This election is significant for shaping the future of Israeli and global Jewish communities, as evidenced by a diverse array of candidates and participating groups. The outcome will have substantial implications for annual financial allocations exceeding $1 billion to support these communities.
