Among the officials representing Ireland’s government across more than 90 cities in over 40 countries was Jack Chambers. At just 34 years old, Chambers serves as Ireland’s Minister for Public Expenditure, Infrastructure, Public Services, Reform, and Digitalisation, as well as deputy leader of the ruling Fianna Fáil party.
During the reception, hosted by Irish Ambassador Gerard McCoy, Minister Chambers expressed condolences regarding the recent Bahía Blanca tragedy. He also emphasized the need for peace in Ukraine and the Gaza Strip, noting that March 17 coincided with the anniversary of the bombing of the Israeli Embassy in 1992, a tragedy that his nation empathizes with given its own experiences with terrorism.
Chambers further affirmed Ireland’s dedication to human rights, stating that he had gained insights from meeting the late Patrick Rice’s family, a former priest and renowned human rights activist. He concluded his address by acknowledging the significance of the Irish community in Argentina, addressing his connections with local officials such as Deregulation & State Transformation Minister Federico Sturzenegger and Cabinet Chief Guillermo Francos.
