Interregional Economic Cooperation Emphasized at International Conference in Ashgabat

The International Conference in Ashgabat focused on the role of interregional economic cooperation in sustainable development. Key discussions involved energy and infrastructure projects between Central and South Asia, emphasizing mutual benefit and trust. The event produced a Final Document and an address to the President, reflecting a commitment to strengthening economic collaboration.

On March 19, 2025, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan hosted the International Conference titled “International Year of Peace and Trust: the Role of Interregional Economic Cooperation in Ensuring Sustainable Development”. This event successfully attracted global attendees to Ashgabat.

Participants included government officials, heads of ministries, diplomats, and representatives from various international organizations. Moreover, it welcomed public and private sector figures from Central Asia, the Middle East, the Asia-Pacific region, Europe, and numerous rectors from Turkmen universities, along with media representatives.

The conference commenced with a highly anticipated congratulatory message from the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov. Following this, the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, addressed the audience to bless the conference and present the main statement.

In his address, Hero-Arkadag underscored the importance of peace, trust, equality, and mutual benefit as foundational elements for economic partnerships. He noted that major economic projects can only thrive through these principles.

Hero-Arkadag emphasized the necessity for global thinking and cooperation, highlighting the responsibility of international and financial institutions to advance a fair geo-economy. He advocated for diversifying energy resources and enhancing transport and infrastructure systems, particularly illustrating the economic synergy between Central and South Asia.

He drew attention to the geopolitical and geoeconomic significance of ongoing energy and infrastructure projects aimed at connecting Central and South Asia by creating new corridors. He concluded his speech by wishing the participants a productive conference experience.

The conference proceeded with thematic sessions covering crucial topics such as the geopolitical importance of energy projects, the Turkmenistan – Afghanistan – Pakistan gas pipeline, and initiatives to improve transport connectivity in Central and South Asia.
