Jorge Martin, the MotoGP champion, aims for a return in Qatar after sustaining injuries from two pre-season crashes. He will miss the initial rounds and emphasizes the need for a careful recovery. Miguel Oliveira will be replaced by Augusto Fernandez in Austin due to injury.
Jorge Martin, the reigning MotoGP world champion, is optimistic about making a return for the fourth race of the season in Qatar, following two crashes during pre-season preparations. He has missed the first two rounds and confirmed that he will not participate in the upcoming race in Austin, Texas, scheduled for March 29 and 30. Martin expressed, “I expect to be in Qatar, but only if it doesn’t pose any risks,” underscoring the importance of not rushing his recovery process.
The Spaniard’s injuries, sustained after a significant crash in Malaysia, have hindered his participation in pre-season testing. Martin suffered a broken right hand and foot during the initial crash and then experienced a further setback due to a second crash while training. He detailed his injuries through social media, labeling them as broken radius and scaphoid bones in his left wrist, four fractures in his left foot, and muscle injuries in his right ribs.
Currently, Martin is trailing 74 points behind the six-time world champion Marc Marquez, who has achieved victories in both races and sprints thus far. He acknowledged, “Marc winning is not something anyone could not have expected,” while remaining positive about his progress, stating, “It was a difficult time but now I start to see the light.”
In related news, the Yamaha-Pramac team reported that Miguel Oliveira will miss the Austin race due to an injury sustained during the Sprint Race in Argentina. His shoulder injury was confirmed to be a sternoclavicular dislocation with accompanying ligament damage; thus, Spaniard Augusto Fernandez will step in as his replacement. Fernandez, the 2022 Moto2 World Champion, previously competed for the GasGas-Tech3 team before becoming a reserve rider for Yamaha this season.
Jorge Martin aims to return for the fourth MotoGP round in Qatar despite facing significant injuries from two pre-season crashes. He emphasizes caution in his recovery process, ensuring that he does not risk further setbacks. Meanwhile, Miguel Oliveira’s absence in Austin will be filled by Augusto Fernandez due to Oliveira’s shoulder injury. Martin remains focused on his comeback while trailing behind fellow competitor Marc Marquez.
