Lactalis to Invest $55 Million in Dairy Production Expansion in Brazil

Lactalis is investing $55.3 million to expand dairy production in Brazil’s Paraná state, marking ten years of operations there. The investment will upgrade facilities and bolster production of various dairy products while highlighting the company’s commitment to the local dairy industry.

Lactalis, the France-based dairy corporation, is investing approximately 313 million reais (about $55.3 million) to expand its dairy production facilities in Paraná, Brazil. This investment commemorates a decade of Lactalis’s operations in Brazil and strengthens its commitment to leadership within the nation’s dairy supply chain.

The new capital will create a UHT milk production line at the Londrina facility and enhance the Carambeí plant’s capacity for producing yogurts, fermented milk, dairy beverages, and desserts. Agreements formalizing these projects were signed with the Paraná state government on March 18, during a ceremony in Curitiba, attended by both Governor Ratinho Júnior and Lactalis’s CEO in Brazil, Roosevelt Junior.

Over the past decade, Lactalis has invested more than 710 million reais in Paraná, operating three facilities in the state, including the Carambeí plant, which employs 830 people. The Londrina and Pato Branco facilities employ 280 and 36 individuals, respectively. Lactalis is yet to disclose whether this latest investment will result in the creation of additional jobs or provide details on the motivations behind this financial effort.

Previously, Lactalis announced a 250 million reais expansion plan in Minas Gerais to modernize seven factories and a 100 million reais investment in Rio Grande do Sul, which focuses on five additional plants. The company employs a total of 3,654 individuals across logistics units and administrative offices in Brazil.

Founded in 1933 and headquartered in Laval, France, Lactalis owns several prominent brands, including Batavo, Président, and Elegê. Its expansion efforts are not limited to Brazil; Lactalis also aims to acquire Granja Pocha, a Uruguay-based producer of cheese and yogurt, further enhancing its footprint in South America.

In conclusion, Lactalis’s recent investment in Brazil reflects its ongoing commitment to enhancing its dairy production operations in South America. The combined $55.3 million investment will expand production capabilities and strengthen its market presence, building on a decade of successful interventions in the region. The company’s strategic expansions across Brazil further solidify its position as a leading player in the dairy industry.
