Pakistan Falls to 109th in World Happiness Report 2025

Pakistan’s ranking in the World Happiness Report 2025 has decreased to 109th from 108th. Despite this decline, it remains above India and Afghanistan. The report, which evaluates happiness across 147 nations, highlights Finland as the happiest country globally, while the US and UK have seen significant decreases in their rankings.

Pakistan has experienced a minor decline in its ranking in the World Happiness Report 2025, falling to 109th from 108th in the previous year. Nonetheless, the nation remains better ranked than its neighboring countries, India and Afghanistan, which are positioned at 118th and 147th, respectively.

The annual World Happiness Report, produced by Gallup and its partners, evaluates the happiness levels of 147 countries through population surveys that analyze quality of life from 2022 to 2024. Within South Asia, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are ranked 133rd and 134th, respectively, while Iran, which has a refugee population constituting 3.9%, ranks higher at 99th. China leads the Asian continent, occupying an impressive 27th place.

Finland has once again been recognized as the happiest country in the world, continuing its dominance in this area. It is followed closely by Denmark and Iceland. Other notable countries in the top 15 include Sweden, the Netherlands, Costa Rica, and Norway. In contrast, both the United States and the United Kingdom have faced significant declines, with the US now at 24th place—its lowest ranking ever—while the UK has dropped to 23rd, its worst since 2017.

At the lower end of the happiness index, Sierra Leone, Lebanon, Malawi, and Zimbabwe are identified as some of the least happy nations globally. The report underscores various factors influencing happiness, such as social support, income levels, personal freedoms, life expectancy, and corruption. Additionally, this year’s findings place importance on the concepts of “caring and sharing” as essential components for enhancing overall well-being.

In conclusion, Pakistan’s slight drop in the World Happiness Report 2025 to 109th place highlights ongoing challenges while still positioning it better than some regional neighbors. The comprehensive report reveals Finland’s continued status as the happiest country, along with significant declines in the rankings of both the US and UK. Importantly, it emphasizes social support and community ties as critical factors influencing happiness.
