On March 19, 2025, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Saudi Arabia for a four-day official visit aimed at enhancing bilateral relations and economic cooperation between the two nations. During his visit, he engaged in talks with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to explore various initiatives for strengthening ties in trade, investment, energy, and security.
In a statement on social media, PM Shehbaz described the discussions as “productive,” mentioning the presence of key figures such as Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. The leaders underscored the significance of military cooperation as both expressed satisfaction with the progress of economic partnerships.
PM Shehbaz lauded Saudi Arabia’s commitment to investing in strategic sectors in Pakistan, remarking on their enduring friendship and shared prosperity goals. He also emphasized the role of Saudi Arabia in promoting peace in the Middle East and Ukraine. Additionally, he conveyed gratitude for Saudi support towards Pakistan’s development.
During the meeting, MBS acknowledged the valuable contributions of the Pakistani community in Saudi Arabia, agreeing to enhance efforts for their welfare, as well as to strengthen cultural and educational exchanges. This visit, initiated by an invitation from the Crown Prince, includes plans for PM Shehbaz to spend time in Makkah, Madina, and Jeddah to meet with King Salman.
This diplomatic engagement follows PM Shehbaz’s previous visit in October 2024 for the Future Investment Initiative, during which several memorandums of understanding worth over $2 billion were signed to bolster trade and investment between Islamabad and Riyadh.
The recent meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman highlights the ongoing commitment to strengthen Pakistan-Saudi Arabia relations, particularly in trade, investment, and security.
