Susan Nakhumicha Nominated to UN Habitat Position in New Government Role

President William Ruto has appointed Susan Nakhumicha as Permanent Representative to the UN Habitat, along with several other diplomatic nominations, including positions in China and Belgium. The nominations will undergo approval by the National Assembly following constitutional provisions.

Former Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha has been appointed to a new position within President William Ruto’s government, nine months after her prior Cabinet role ended. This appointment was announced by State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed, designating Nakhumicha as the Permanent Representative of the Permanent Mission of Kenya to the United Nations Habitat in Nairobi.

Nakhumicha’s nomination coincides with those of James Buyekane Muhati and Abdi Dubat Fidhow, who have been selected as Consul-Generals in Guangzhou, China, and Arusha, Tanzania, respectively. Additionally, Peter Tum has been nominated as Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Congo, while Alfred K’Ombundo will serve as Deputy Head of Mission in Belgium.

As mentioned in the announcement, “Per Article 132 (2) (e) of the Constitution, His Excellency the President has nominated the following persons to serve as Ambassadors, Consuls-General, and Deputy Heads of Mission in Kenya’s foreign missions abroad.” Following their nominations, the names have been forwarded to the National Assembly for review and approval in compliance with constitutional mandates.

Nakhumicha’s nomination follows her earlier appeals to President Ruto for government appointment due to financial difficulties she was experiencing. This new role indicates a return to public service for Nakhumicha after her Cabinet tenure.

In summary, Susan Nakhumicha’s nomination as Permanent Representative to the UN Habitat marks her return to government service after a hiatus. This move, orchestrated by President Ruto, accompanies other diplomatic appointments aimed at strengthening Kenya’s representation abroad. The nominations are now awaiting National Assembly approval, highlighting the constitutional process involved in such appointments.
