War Veterans Confront Kudakwashe Tagwirei Over Corruption Allegations

Kudakwashe Tagwirei faces severe criticism from war veterans led by Blessed Geza over allegations of monopolizing economic sectors for corrupt practices. Geza warns that the veterans will hold Tagwirei accountable for his actions, asserting that corruption under President Mnangagwa’s government has reached alarming levels, undermining Zimbabwe’s economic emancipation efforts.

Kudakwashe Tagwirei, a close associate of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, faces criticism from war veterans regarding alleged monopolization of Zimbabwe’s key economic sectors for corrupt purposes. Blessed “Bombshell” Geza has accused Tagwirei of leveraging his relationship with Mnangagwa to engage in corrupt practices and was warned that the veterans are preparing to confront him.

Geza asserted, “Tagwirei, we are warning you, together with your colleagues. We did not go to war so that you could monopolise corrupt contracts. We are going to deal with you decisively—mark my words—and thoroughly. By the time Mnangagwa leaves power, Zimbabwe will be a shell, and this is totally unacceptable. We cannot accept that.”

Tagwirei has allegedly secured lucrative government contracts, including a multimillion-dollar deal for constructing the Mbudzi Interchange flyover and possesses significant interests in mining and the fuel sector. Additionally, he spearheads the Command Agriculture programme and chairs the Land Tenure Implementation Committee.

Furthermore, Tagwirei’s company, Sakunda Holdings, has been linked to the disappearance of $3 billion from the Ministry of Agriculture during the period from 2017 to 2018. Consequently, he has been sanctioned by the United States for purportedly facilitating corrupt activities among high-ranking government officials.

Geza emphasized that corruption has surged under Mnangagwa’s leadership due to favoritism, stating, “Corruption in Mnangagwa’s government has become a cancer in this country. Mnangagwa has continued to deploy his cronies to milk this country dry. We fought for economic emancipation and the equitable distribution of resources. But, on the contrary, Mnangagwa is stopping at nothing to take everything away from the country.”

The allegations against Kudakwashe Tagwirei reveal deep-seated concerns regarding corruption and cronyism within the Zimbabwean government, particularly under President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration. War veterans, led by Blessed Geza, have pledged to address this issue decisively, emphasizing the need for transparency and accountability in the management of key economic sectors. The growing dissatisfaction among the veterans signals a potential shift in the political landscape if these issues remain unaddressed.
