Kenya and Netherlands Strengthen Defence Ties Through New Agreement

Kenya and the Netherlands have signed a Letter of Intent to enhance Defence Cooperation, focusing on Peace Support Operations, Artificial Intelligence, and Cyber Security. The agreement was formalized during the royal visit of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima. The partnership aims to strengthen intelligence-led peacekeeping and promote maritime and climate security, alongside judicial reforms in Kenya.

Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya emphasized that both nations are dedicated to enhancing intelligence-led peacekeeping missions globally.

The agreement was finalized during the visit of Their Majesties, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands, to the International Peace Support Training Centre (IPSTC) located in Karen. CS Tuya revealed that she had met with Dutch Defence Minister Ruben Brekelmans to finalize the agreement prior to the Royal Couple’s visit.

The strengthened cooperation between Kenya and the Netherlands marks a significant step towards enhanced defence capabilities in peacekeeping and the responsible use of technology. Additionally, the ongoing discussions on judiciary independence and justice reforms reflect the nations’ commitment to uphold democracy and the rule of law.
