According to the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction, between three to four million Kenyans experience disruptions from natural and human-induced disasters each year. Macdonald Obudho, Director-General of the KNBS, emphasized that this data tool will significantly inform policy formulation focused on issues such as urbanization, environmental degradation, and climate change.
Obudho stated, “In addition, as a country, we will be in a better position to track progress along environmental conservation, thereby meeting both national and international commitments, such as the Sustainable Development Goals, the Paris Climate Agreement, and the Convention on Biological Diversity.” Stakeholders from various sectors are encouraged to utilize the resource to guide policy formulation and inspire decisive actions aimed at protecting vulnerable communities against environmental challenges. Experts highlighted the urgency of implementing informed policies to safeguard livelihoods and preserve natural resources as the climate crisis continues to escalate.
