During the first half of Ramadan, Kuwait authorities identified over 600 violations of donation-raising regulations, including unlicensed online donations, illegal advertisements, and unauthorized clothing collection booths. The Ministry of Social Affairs is working in collaboration with other departments to address these issues and regulate charitable activities effectively.
In the first half of Ramadan, Kuwaiti authorities reported over 600 violations related to donation-raising activities as they intensify efforts to regulate charitable actions. The Ministry of Social Affairs documented these infringements during inspection tours, identifying 41 advertisements that violated donation regulations and 16 more issued by non-compliant charities.
Additionally, the ministry noted eight violations concerning individuals and groups soliciting donations through street advertisements. Field teams discovered 233 unlicensed clothing collection booths, with their locations communicated to the Kuwait Municipality for removal.
Unauthorized donation collection practices continued to be an issue, as 24 restaurants and companies were found raising funds on social media without official licenses. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has since been notified to address these infractions.
A significant example included a restaurant unlawfully soliciting donations for an Iftar project. Furthermore, 22 violations involving donation-raising websites were recorded and reported to the Communications and Information Technology Regulatory Authority.
Inside mosques, six violations were detected, comprising advertisements for donation collection and charitable initiatives that lacked prior coordination. In a notable instance, a box designated for cash donations was seized for operating without a license, and this was reported to the Ministry of Waqfs and Islamic Affairs. Ramadan is traditionally a time of increased charitable activities and goodwill.
The reported violations of donation-raising rules in Kuwait during Ramadan highlight the government’s proactive stance on regulating charitable work. From unlicensed online donations to illegal advertisements, the authorities have taken significant steps to uphold the integrity of charitable activities. The increased scrutiny during this peak season for benevolence serves to protect the sanctity of giving within the community.
