Marcos welcomed Ambassadors Edgar Rodrigo Rojas Garavito of Colombia, Sin Saream of Cambodia, and Yuliia Oleksandrivna Fediv of Ukraine during separate ceremonies at Malacañan Palace, emphasizing the importance of their roles in fostering close ties with the Philippines.
In his remarks to Ambassador Rojas Garavito, Marcos stated, “I believe there’s more that we can do, that we can explore many other sectors, and strengthen and deepen the relations between our two countries.” He noted that Colombia and the Philippines, which have maintained diplomatic relations since July 5, 1946, share mutual aspirations for “lasting peace and development,” with approximately 100 Filipinos residing in Colombia.
Regarding Cambodia, Marcos expressed his desire to further solidify their already strong relationship, adding, “I welcome you to the Philippines and I look forward to even stronger relationships between our two countries.” Ambassador Sin Saream pledged to enhance cooperation between the nations for the benefit of both countries. Formal diplomatic relations were established on August 20, 1957, and currently, around 7,500 Filipinos live in Cambodia.
Ambassador Fediv reaffirmed her commitment to developing bilateral relations with the Philippines by promoting peace and mutual respect. Marcos reiterated the Philippines’ strong support for peace initiatives in Ukraine, stating, “We hope to continue – we will always support you in your efforts for peace.” Diplomatic ties with Ukraine were established on April 7, 1992, with approximately 24 Filipinos living there.
