Key figures retained in the new administration include Foreign Minister Assaad al-Shaibani and Defence Minister Mourhaf Abu Qasra. Additionally, Anas Khattab has been designated as the new interior minister, while Mohammed Yosr Bernieh will serve as finance minister.
Significantly, veteran opposition figure Hind Kabawat has been appointed the social affairs and labour minister, making her the first woman to hold a ministerial position under the Islamist-aligned Sharaa. Kabawat, who belongs to Syria’s Christian minority and has been a long-standing adversary of the ousted Bashar al-Assad, previously participated in the preparatory committee for the national dialogue conference held in February.
Since the ousting of Assad by Islamist rebels on December 8, the governance of Syria has been managed by a collective ministerial team overseeing daily operations.
