Yury Trutnev, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation and Co-Chair of the Intergovernmental Russian-Namibian Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, has commenced a working visit to Namibia. His agenda includes discussions with Namibian officials regarding the enhancement of economic ties between Russia and Namibia.
Upon arrival in Windhoek, Mr. Trutnev paid tribute at Heroes’ Acre by laying a wreath at the Eternal Flame, commemorating those who sacrificed for Namibia’s freedom and independence. He also honored the legacies of former Presidents Sam Nujoma and Hage Gottfried Geingob by laying flowers at their graves.
In a press interaction, Yury Trutnev reminisced about his meeting with Namibia’s first President, Sam Nujoma, two decades prior, recognizing him as a pivotal figure in Namibia’s liberation. He expressed appreciation for Mr. Nujoma’s acknowledgment of the Soviet Union’s contributions and noted, “Mr. Nujoma remembered well the role the Soviet Union had to play in Namibia’s liberation movement and maintained friendly ties with our country.”
During this visit, Mr. Trutnev is also scheduled to meet with Selma Ashipala-Musavyi, the Minister of International Relations and Trade, to discuss bilateral cooperation further.
