Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesperson Oncu Keceli stated, “We are deeply saddened by the ongoing escalation of the conflict in Sudan and the worsening humanitarian situation. We once again call on the parties for a ceasefire and peace to prevent further bloodshed.” Keceli further stressed the importance of maintaining Sudan’s unity, territorial integrity, sovereignty, and independence.
He affirmed Türkiye’s readiness to support efforts aimed at swiftly resolving the conflict and fostering peace, security, and stability in Sudan, a country he referred to as friendly and brotherly. The ongoing hostilities between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have resulted in over 20,000 fatalities and displaced approximately 14 million individuals as reported by the UN and local authorities. Furthermore, the World Food Program indicates that two million people are at risk of famine across 27 locations in Sudan.
As the conflict escalates, the international community and the United Nations have increasingly amplified their calls for a cessation of hostilities. They have warned of looming humanitarian disasters, as millions approach starvation and face potential death due to severe food shortages. Battlegrounds have spread across 13 of the country’s 18 states, exacerbating the dire situation for the Sudanese population.
