At the burial of the late Malava MP, Malulu Injendi in Kakamega County, he announced the construction of five new roads aimed at promoting economic growth in the area. He emphasized that past grievances of neglect would be addressed, affirming, “You have said you were left behind in the past governments. I will make sure Western will not be left behind in development.”
Furthermore, President Ruto highlighted that real change in the region cannot occur amidst conflict among political leaders. “I have said it before, Kakamega will not be changed with noise or chaos. It will be changed with good plans and strategy,” he remarked. His statements coincided with calls from prominent local leaders such as Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, urging politicians to cease disruptive behavior during public gatherings.
Mudavadi notably decried the misuse of youth for violent acts at funerals and public events. He declared, “Stop misusing youths to cause chaos in funerals or public meetings. Chaos will not take you anywhere.” Ruto beseeched the leaders in attendance to collaborate with his administration to facilitate development in the region, indicating that unity is crucial for progress.
He projected growth in Western Kenya by 2025, having dedicated his initial two years to laying a robust foundation for future initiatives. “This will be a year of results. I want to thank the leaders from here, led by the governor Barasa, for agreeing to work with me to transform the region,” he stated.
