The Indian Consulate in Shanghai recently organized an enlightening discussion titled “AI for the World, and India’s Role in Shaping the Future of Artificial Technology.” This event was led by Pratik Mathur, the Consul General of India in Shanghai, and brought together speakers and audience members from over 15 countries to engage in meaningful dialogue about the future of artificial intelligence (AI) and technology, with a focus on India’s contributions.
Keynote speaker Mukesh Sharma, Regional Head of Tech Mahindra in China, elaborated on India’s rich technological heritage. He traced its origins from ancient Sanskrit texts to contemporary advancements, particularly in developing large language models that cater to India’s vast array of dialects.
Sharma also stressed India’s dedication to responsible AI development, pointing out that Prime Minister Modi co-chaired the Paris Summit. This leadership role symbolizes India’s commitment to fostering AI that benefits society collectively, underscoring its ethical approach to technology.
Moreover, the narrative highlighted India’s burgeoning startup ecosystem, which presently ranks 19th globally, with Bengaluru recognized among the top 10 startup cities. Significant investments, including $3 billion in AI infrastructure and the launch of the National Quantum Mission, were recognized as pivotal advancements, along with developments in AI applications relevant to agriculture, cleantech, spacetech, and healthcare.
The discussion also addressed the evolution of AI and predicted a transition towards agentic AI. It emphasized the impending advent of multimodal singularity, ultimately leading to the realization of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI).
