He highlighted this visit, at the invitation of Mauritius Prime Minister Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam, as an opportunity to celebrate the nation’s 57th National Day.

In his departure statement, Prime Minister Modi referred to Mauritius as a “close maritime neighbour” and an essential gateway to Africa. He underscored the shared historical, geographical, and cultural ties between India and Mauritius, which form the basis of their mutual trust and democratic values, alongside a celebration of diversity.

Modi noted the progress achieved in the bilateral relationship over the past decade, driven by people-centric initiatives. He stressed his eagerness to engage with the Mauritian leadership to enhance collaboration across various domains, which aligns with India’s Vision SAGAR for ensuring security and development in the Indian Ocean Region.

The Prime Minister will initiate his visit by arriving in Port Louis, where he plans to pay respects at the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden. He intends to honor both Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam, the founding father of Mauritius, and Sir Anerood Jugnauth, a former President and Prime Minister. Modi’s itinerary includes meetings with the new President of Mauritius, Dharambeer Gokhool, and key political leaders during his stay.
