The Mozambican government has approved the National Development Strategy (ENDE) 2025-2044, aimed at guiding the country’s development for the next 20 years. Following recent sociopolitical disturbances, the strategy was reassessed to align with current needs. Implementation will focus on economic growth, reducing inequalities, and establishing stability through dialogue and collaboration among citizens.
The Mozambican government is set to enact the National Development Strategy (ENDE) 2025-2044, which outlines the collective vision for the nation’s development over the next two decades. Recently approved by Mozambique’s Council of Ministers, the strategy will be presented to the Assembly of the Republic. ENDE’s primary focus is to advance sustainable and inclusive economic growth while improving living conditions for the Mozambican populace and addressing inequalities.
In June 2024, the government had previously approved the ENDE 2025-2044. However, Minister of State Administration and Public Service, Inocêncio Impissa, indicated that the violent demonstrations following the recent elections necessitated a thorough reevaluation of the strategy, as these events disrupted major economic activities in the country. The anticipated budget for ENDE implementation will derive from various strategies, policies, and sectoral programs to be formulated throughout this period.
Following the first 100 days of governance, a review of the government’s action plan reflected that, out of 96 performance indicators, 68 achieved over 50% progress, 18 fell between 25% and 49%, and 10 registered below 24%. The plan emphasizes ensuring economic and social stability amidst continuing unrest, particularly following post-election protests led by supporters of the defeated candidate, Venâncio Mondlane. Impissa highlighted the importance of achieving peace through dialogue and collaboration, stating the need for participating parties to work together towards stabilizing the nation.
Impissa underscored, “The destabilization of the country has been caused by people, so these same people have to be brought to the table to talk, to discuss and find joint, collective paths towards the pacification and stabilization of the country.”
The Mozambican government is preparing to implement the ENDE 2025-2044, which is designed to foster sustainable and inclusive development over the next two decades. The recent approval by the Council of Ministers signifies a commitment to strategy revisions prompted by recent socio-political challenges. With a focus on dialogue for stability, the government illustrates its dedication to addressing the nation’s pressing needs and rebuilding hope within the community.
