Argentina Supports Conclusion of Armenia-Azerbaijan Peace Treaty Negotiations

Argentina has welcomed the conclusion of negotiations for a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, commending efforts towards peaceful resolution. Following the announcement, Azerbaijan made false accusations against Armenia, which were denied. Armenia’s Prime Minister Pashinyan has reiterated readiness to sign the peace agreement.

The Argentine government has expressed its approval regarding the recent conclusion of negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan concerning a peace treaty. In a statement published on X, Argentina’s Foreign Ministry acknowledged the successful culmination of discussions, praising both parties for their dedication to achieving a peaceful resolution to ongoing disputes.

The ministry indicated that it is hopeful this development will foster growth and welfare for both nations, thereby enhancing stability and prosperity within the South Caucasus region. Armenia and Azerbaijan officially declared the successful conclusion of their peace treaty negotiations on March 13.

However, shortly thereafter, Azerbaijani authorities launched a significant disinformation campaign, making unfounded allegations against Armenia, claiming it had attacked Azerbaijani military positions. The Armenian military has firmly denied these accusations, and the European Union’s monitoring mission in Armenia has also rejected reports of border shootings. Furthermore, Azerbaijan continues to impose preconditions, demanding amendments to the Armenian constitution based on unfounded territorial claims against Azerbaijan and advocating for the dissolution of the OSCE Minsk Group.

On March 20, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan reaffirmed Armenia’s commitment to signing the peace agreement with Azerbaijan, indicating a continued willingness to pursue diplomatic resolution.

Argentina’s endorsement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace treaty negotiations highlights a significant step toward stability in the region. Nonetheless, the ongoing disinformation campaign by Azerbaijan and its preconditions raise concerns about the sincerity of their intentions. The commitment of both Armenia and Azerbaijan to finalize the peace agreement remains crucial for regional prosperity and enhanced relations.
